EDUROAM celebrates one billion roaming authentications
On 17 May 2016, eduroam clocked up two amazing milestones – registering both one billion roaming authentications (either in-country or international) since the beginning of the year and the one billionth international authentication (when users are connecting from outside their home country) since the service was launched. https://www.eduroam.org/happy-1000000000th/ Born in Europe in 2003, eduroam operates now in 76 countries on all continents (including Armenia) and experienced an average 80 % annual growth over the last 5 years. Thanks to eduroam, a EU-funded Wi-Fi roaming technology, millions of students, researchers and staff can smoothly access the internet and local IT resources when visiting other eduroam-enabled institutions, by simply opening their laptops or mobile device. eduroam is part of the EU-funded GÉANT research and education project and it is a key IT enabler for supporting the mobility of researchers and students inside country, Europe and globally.
