The Academic Scientific Research Computer Network of Armenia (ASNET-AM) is the Armenian National Research and Education Network (NREN).
It provides state-of-the-art information-communication services and advanced telecommunication networking facilities to its users according to Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Data Protection Policy.
Since 1998, the ASNET-AM (established in 1994) has been legally represented and operated by the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems (IIAP) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) by the decision of the Presidium of NAS RA. Now, the ASNET-AM backbone interconnects more than 70 organisations located in six towns of Armenia with speeds up to 10 Gbps, among which there are research institutions of NAS RA, universities, libraries, museums, and governmental agencies. Since 2016, ASNET-AM has direct gigabit connectivity to the pan-European research network GÉANT.
The key pillars of ASNET-AM are to deploy a sustainable nationwide e-Infrastructure consisting of networking, data and computing facilities, and to research and develop advanced information and communication services, methods, and algorithms. ASNET-AM staff members at the same time are scientists and engineers of IIAP NAS RA. The data center of ASNET-AM provides novel e-services for large-scale simulations and data processing, such as IaaS, data preservation, or AI.
ASNET-AM participated in several projects funded by EC, including GN4-3, EaPConnect, SEE-GRID-SCI, HP-SEE, NI4OS, and several ERASMUS+ projects. ASNET-AM is a member of the GÉANT Association and RIPE. ASNET-AM has a long-time successful partnership with ISOC-AM/ISOC Armenia Chapter.
